In early April 2007, Linda Crawford and Heather Grace realized that Huron Valley did not have an
annual community wide Earth Day Festival. So with just a few short weeks, they decided to organize
the Inaugural Huron Valley Earth Day Festival and invited all community members to participate!
Linda and Heather began contacting the people they knew committed to the environment and are
building a team to run the Annual Huron Valley Earth Day Festival. The initial Green Team, as they
began to be called, included: Linda and Heather along with Fay Hansen, Ruth Gruber, Laurie Horn
and Charlie Crawford. New members include: Andrea Armstrong, Jennifer Kovach, Mary Bajcz, Ethyl
Rivera, Sarah White, Alison Ellis, Sharon Greene and more. Their goal was and continues to be simple
- to connect the community!
To connect community members for the purposes of:
- Building community collaboration that promotes responsible care of our home, The Earth
- Providing a learning space so community members know how they can help themselves by helping to
save our planet
- Organizing a space for earth friendly organizations & vendors to connect with volunteers & customers
- Giving individuals & families information and activities that explore nature and environmental issues
- Empowering community members to action - to make daily choices that allow ALL to live longer,
healthier & responsible lives
- Have Fun Celebrating OUR Amazing Earth!
The results of the Inaugural Huron Valley Earth Day Festival were a surprise to all the planners! More than 500 community members came to enjoy 37 earth friendly vendors/organizations, participate in 13 workshops, dozens of activities & listen to 5 local & regional bands. 200 trees were given away along with other give-aways. Earth Day Festival
began as a discussion between two
residents who wanted to know what
was available in the area on this
important day.
“. . . on April 22, 1970, Earth
Day was held, one of the most
remarkable happenings in the
history of democracy. . .”
